Eric Zmrhal of Texas District 22 Gives Us an Update
Last month, we interviewed Eric Zmrhal, Republican primary candidate for US House representing the 22nd District of Texas. This week, we briefly touched bases again to discuss the upcoming election on March 6, and the behind-the-scenes maneuvers by his opponents.

Eric embodies the classical ideal of the non-politician representative. His website prominently features the Plato quote: “The measure of a man is what he does with power.”
“I don’t want to be a career politician,” Zmrhal opined. “I believe in term limits. I don’t think we should have people up there for 20, 30, 40, 50 years. … I believe in making changes, making progress, doing the best you can over a 10-20 year period and then get out. Let someone else take over the reins.”
Between the GOP incumbent and the other challengers, only Eric Zmrhal has any experience in the oil industry.
Zmrhal took his degree in mechanical engineering from Miami University and put it to use making energy at oil industry giants such as BP and Shell Oil.
Experience in engineering gives him an advantage over the career politicians. “I don’t think we have true problem solvers in Washington. I think we have a bunch of lawyers and career politicians. I think we need more people that have training in solving problems and engineers make great problem solvers. And that’s why need more engineers in DC – to help solve these issues.”
A topic that still ranks top across many US voter polls is immigration.
Zmrhal’s stance on immigration is pro-wall to stop illegal immigration. As far as the spike of H-1B visas is concerned Zmrhal is more interested in fixing the root problem than perpetuating a broken system, “I think that goes back to the education that we’re providing our youngsters. I wish we had more of a focus on STEM majors and STEM degrees because those are the jobs now and they’re going to be the jobs of the future.”
